
Robert ZweitenDirector, Capital Markets & Financial Sectors Division Asian Development Bank
Robert van Zwieten joined the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in Manila inJanuary 2009 as the Director overseeing the bank's private sector operationsin Asian capital markets and financial sectors, covering 48 developingmember countries of ADB. The divisionís portfolio of activities currentlycomprise the financial institutions debt, equity and structured financebusiness, housing finance, the recently expanded USD 15 Billion TradeFinance Facilitation Program and a USD 700 Million portfolio of investmentsin select developmentally effective private equity funds.
Robert has 21 years of global senior executive experience in financialservices, having conducted business and led teams, transactions and projectsin all major financial markets in the United States, Europe, Asia andAustralia. Amongst others, he has worked for ABN AMRO Bank, GE Capital andGE Energy, Lehman Brothers and Singapore Exchange. He possesses deep domainknowledge in the areas of corporate, commercial and investment banking,securities brokerage, exchanges, alternative asset management and emergingcapital markets.
He serves on the Board of Trustees of International House in New York. Healso serves on the Board of Advisors of Doctors Without Borders/MÈdecinsSans FrontiËres (MSF) USA and is a past Chairman of its Development Council.He is a co-founder and past Board member and Treasurer of the InvestorRelations Professionals Association (Singapore) (IRPAS). He also serves as apro bono financial adviser on the Advisory Panel of the Singapore InvestorsAssociation (Singapore) (SIAS) and is a member of the Singapore Institute ofDirectors (SID). He has spoken at many financial markets conferences and haslectured in banking and finance at Baruch College, Zicklin School ofBusiness in New York.
Robert was educated in Europe and the United States. He holds an M.B.A. fromthe University of Chicago - Booth School of Business, obtained his J.D. andM.A. degrees from Leiden University, the Netherlands, and holds an LL.M.degree from Columbia University School of Law in New York. He is a citizenof both the United States and the Netherlands.
